You are about to read one of the most unique “About Me” pages on the internet! WHY? Because I enlisted the help of several of my Facebook friends (and family members) to help introduce me to you. I asked my FB friends to answer the following question…”If you didn’t already know me, and had the opportunity to ask me just one question (to get to know me), what would you ask?” Here are the top 25 results (with honorable mentions):
There is no particular order here…
WARNING: Some of these questions are very deep and may very well be too intense for the average person, and might even be over your head! Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
1. Melissa Sigle asks… When someone asks you a question like “Who are you” what is your answer? What one word defines who you are?
Hmmm. I guess I just tell them that I am the one and only Steve Sherman…there never has been, nor will there ever be another just like me! In a word…. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!! (sp?)
2. Wendy Hendrix Bennett asks… What has been your biggest risk moment of your life?
WOW! There have been so many. I guess it was when I took that first step when I was 20, and packed up everything I owned into my 1982 Toyota Corolla, and drove over 1,000 miles to Dallas, TX without even a road map (this was before gps was available. I literally drove to Atlanta, and made a left turn). I took a big chance and left all that I knew as home (Family, friends, etc.), to go live with a friend that I really didn’t know nearly as well as most others in my hometown. Fortunately I was smart enough to line up a job BEFORE I made the journey. I will say that from a career perspective, it was by far one of the smartest decisions/risks that I ever made.
3. Shea A Prior asks… Where did you grow up? (Disclaimer: Half-Sister who I did not grow up with…I know, it’s sad right?)
Well, I was born in Flint, MI, and ended up moving to Savannah, GA when I was only 2. I spent the next 18 years growing up on the Southside of Savannah, before I moved to Dallas, TX to work in the private jet charter business at the ripe old age of 20. (That has to be a run-on sentence). Sorry Mr. Shaw (My High school English teacher).
Funny you should ask this Carolynn. I am well on my way to making money no object!…And I would, and I am going to have a second home in the Turks and Caicos where I can work from my hammock while relaxing between two shade trees on my private white-sandy beach with the sound of crashing waves and where the warm, gentle ocean breeze fills my lungs with the fresh tropical salt water air. Man! I can darn near taste the salt! Can’t you just picture yourself there? I know I can!
5. Ron Hoffman asks… Dogs or Cats?
Definitely Dogs….not much on cats. However, I would be lying if I told you that I did not think kittens were cute. Problem is (at least for me), they grow up and become cats….with attitudes!
God, Family, Career, Friends, Material things. In that order!
WOW! Well, I have been pretty happy being me. That said, I am not so sure that I would want to be anybody else, but as to the having anything in the world I want???? I guess that I would probably not be selfish, and just ask for happiness, joy, and peace to be a reality for all of humanity. If you are referring to a material “Anything”, I would say that I would want to be wealthier than Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and Warren Buffet combined, have more wisdom than King Solomon, and the Wizard of Oz, and be better looking than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (combined of course). Other than that, I just can’t seem to think of anything else. Just so you know, I would share my wisdom and wealth with everyone! (By the way, aside from my Sister Lyn, and my cousin Howard, Sylvia has known me longer than anybody else on this page. We have known each other since 5th grade).
Okay Debbie….I will give it a shot. Steve Sherman is original, but he has always been wise enough to follow others who are much better than he is. Therefore, his greatest asset is that he believes that “You can have anything in life you want, as long as you are willing help others get what they want first” (Quote stolen from the Great Zig Ziglar, one of those guys who was better than Steve, but whom Steve learned much from). That said, because Steve believes in helping others….first, you should always work with Steve. That is my sales pitch, and I am sticking with it!
It was really much more than a hobby, more like a lifestyle…it was roller skating, and I lived for it. So much so that I became a rink rat (that’s where you work in order to get in and skate for free) at age 12. I was put on the payroll at 16, and became a manager at 17. It was one of the most fun times in my life, and I still love to skate even today @ Sk8city!
Well, since it would be impossible for me to know when Jesus is going to return, I would be very happy to know the exact day, and time in which I would die…I think…maybe not. The more I think about this, the more unsure I am about whether I would want to know this or not. It might not be a good thing. I mean, what if it were like tomorrow morning at 7am (before I got to have breakfast) or what if it was like RIGHT N.. (Just kiddin, I’m still alive). Okay Celeste, you may have stumped me for now, but I will get back to you on this.
11. Tony Maddox asks… Do you know the names of your sons’ teachers?
Good question Tony. And I know that a lot of Fathers out there probably DO NOT know the correct answer to this question, but I have an unfair advantage. Yes! Her name is Suzanne Sherman, and I married her over 20 years ago. She has home-schooled all four of my kids.
Okay Lyn….everyone….this is my full-blooded Sister, Lyn. As opposed to my half-Sister Shea (above), and for the sake of keeping the peace, yes Lyn, you are my favorite. I’m sure Shea and Cali will understand.
13. Tammy McCurry asks… How would you describe yourself?
I am a God-fearing, Fun-loving, self-motivated, hard-working, entrepreneur who loves to serve others and enjoys the best of what life has to offer. I seek to serve all of humanity in the age-old fashion of the golden rule….do unto others as you would have them do unto you. As an entrepreneur, I strive to help others become successful in life by teaching them how to start and run their own successful online home-based business. As a health and fitness nut, I love to help others reach and maintain a level of health that allows them to achieve all that God has in store for them. After all, what good is your wealth if you have bad health!
I would rob a bank, rape and pillage a community and use the stolen money to get my place in the Turks and Caicos tomorrow….okay…not really. Truth be known, I would not change much of what I am doing now. I would probably want to take a trip to two places that I have yet to travel to…Italy (Specifically Sicily) so I can see where my ancestors came from and learn a little bit more about my heritage, and Israel, so I can learn a little bit more about my Christian heritage. I would probably put together a short bucket list with some other really fun things to do as well (Sky dive, travel to some other unique places, eat some weird foods, threaten to beat up Hulk Hogan…what would I have to lose?, go meet Willie, Uncle Si, and the rest of the Duck Dynasty gang in person and hang out, tell the Kardashians what I really think about them, toss my hat into the political arena and run for President, etc). Why would you ask this question Jonathan? Am I really going to die in the next month?
Steve Sherman asks… (That’s me) What is it with all these questions that require me to talk about my own demise??????
15. Craig Landolt asks… If you could change one thing from your past what would it be and why?
There are really too many to list here, but if I can only list one (and it is not the most important), I would have never cut my long hair back in the 70′s. After I did that it all started to fall out. It’s just not fair. I used to have beautiful, long hair.
Happy, Happy, Happy! (Borrowed from Phil on Duck Dynasty)
17. Ken LaMantia asks… What would be your dream job?
I already have it…being my own boss, and working from wherever I want whenever I want, and for as long (or as short) as I want, and most importantly….with Whomever I want! I actually get to choose who I work with rather than being told by someone else who I have to spend my work day with. It’s a wonderful life! Not to mention that every day I am able to impact the lives of others in ways that I would never be able to do so if I had a regular 9-5, M-F type of job. And best of all, IF I CHOOSE TO SLEEP IN….I CAN! (Although I usually don’t. You know, that old saying “The early bird catches the worm”).
18. Lora Bratton asks… How did you meet your wife?
It was very romantic. It was love at first sight. We were both on holiday in the Seychelles, (a 115-island country spanning an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, named one of the top 10 most romantic destinations on the planet). I will never forget when I first laid my eyes on her beauty. I was sitting in this quaint little tiki-hut style seafood restaurant on the beach at about 8pm on my first Friday night there. Suzanne happened to walk in the room and asked the waiter to seat her and her two friends. The second she came in our eyes met, and I noticed that she smiled and then looked away real fast due to her shyness. After they were seated, I asked the waiter to send a bottle of their best wine to their table. Once he delivered it to them, Suzanne turned and smiled at me with her beautiful brown eyes, and mouthed the words “Thank You”. I was mesmerized. I knew that I had to meet this woman. I got up enough courage to go over and introduce myself, and ask her name. They ended up asking me to join them, and we had an amazing time having dinner, telling stories, and laughing. After dinner, I asked Suzanne if she wanted to take a stroll on the beach. She reluctantly agreed (After all, I was a stranger who she had never seen). We took what was left of the bottle of wine, a couple of glasses, and walked hand in hand down the beach and had such an amazing time that before we knew it, we were standing on the beach holding each other and watching the most amazing sunrise either of us had ever seen. We never left each others side for the duration of our time together in the Seychelles. We came back to the states soon after, and were married within a year…. Okay, okay….that’s how it was supposed to happen. In reality, we met at church and she could not stand me when we first met (So she says). The only part that is true in the above story is that in less than a year after we started dating, we married, and today we have been together for over 20 years! She, the happy mom, homemaker, and home school teacher, me the dad, and bread-winner. It really doesn’t seem that long ago. Time really does fly!
19. Kevin Allen asks… Where did you get your marketing drive?
Some of it from being able to sneak into my Dad’s office as a youngster (his office was in our home) while he was working and watch him, and listen to him talk to clients on the phone. Mostly though, after I moved to Dallas, TX in 1984, I was given the opportunity to work for a subsidiary of The Mary Kay Cosmetic giant in operations. I was soon offered the opportunity to move into the marketing department (the best career move I could have ever made at that time in my life). I learned so much, and really loved the sales and marketing of private jet franchises. It was a great introduction for me. It led me to network marketing, which has been a passion and a way of life for me for over 30 years. If you truly understand the concept of network marketing, it is exactly what Robert Kiyosaki (famed author of the NY Times Best Selling Book – Rich Dad, Poor Dad) says it is, “The Business of The 21st Century”, that has created more millionaires than any other profession in all of history! It is the only profession that I know of whereby the ONLY way you can be successful, is to help others achieve success as well. So, in a nutshell, the reason I have the marketing drive that I have is two-fold…I like making money, and helping others make money too! It’s just pure fun, and full of adrenaline, not to mention I am living out the previously stated Zig Ziglar quote!
20. Dell Sheffield asks… Steve, if you were to die ( God forbid no time soon ). What would you want your family & friends (including Jesus) to be able to say about you in truth?
I would want them to say that I lived my life to the fullest, serving humanity to the best of my potential, while preparing myself and as many others as possible for an eternity in Heaven, and that I was able to accomplish this while using all of my God-given talents, skills, and abilities (including my silly sense of humor). As for Jesus… “Well done” would be enough for me. Great question Dell!
21. Jim McLean asks… What is the one thing you would do, if you knew you could not fail?
You mean besides working for the bomb squad unit?….Buy a winning lottery ticket, run for President, and fire Congress. (Is that just one thing?)
22. Dianne Sims Kessler asks… What is the most meaningful “Life Lesson” you have learned so far? What did you have to go through to learn it?
Attempting to live life on my own without seeking God’s wisdom. I figured out that I am not the one with all the answers, and that it is a lot easier to seek the one who does have them all. I had to go through many, many years of hellacious trials and tribulations and much disappointment. I try to pass my life lessons on to others… I am always telling my children, “Learn from other people’s mistakes…not your own”.
23. Tom Cambell asks… You are in a car wreck. Your vehicle is burning and about to explode. You can save either your wife or one of your children. Which one do you save, and why did you choose the one you did?
WOW Tom, that’s deep. Assuming this is not some type of bizarre riddle, I would rescue my child. My wife has lived over four decades on earth, my child has not yet become a parent and has never known the love of a parent for a child. I would want to give him/her the opportunity to grow up and live a full life, and experience all the joys and wonders of parenthood and life in general. I would expect my wife to make the same choice if it were me or one of my kids. (She read this before I posted it, and agrees completely).
24. Mel Hubbard asks… How do you remain so positive and upbeat!
Great question Mel!!!!!…..Self-development. The key to success is to work harder on yourself than on your business. I have had several mentors over the years…Zig Ziglar, John Maxwell, Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Tom Hopkins, Dani Johnson, Eric Worre, and Darren Hardy just to name a few. They all agree with that statement. It is what helped them to achieve great success in life! With more than 90% of everything we hear, say, and do being completely negative and working against us, we absolutely MUST replenish our minds with the good, clean, pure, powerful, and positive… just to stay at break even. As Zig used to say, “Our minds are like a computer. It is all about the programming. Garbage in…garbage out”.
25. Molly Myers Bridges asks… What was it like to grow up in your house?
That is a very good question, and it may help you to understand why I am the way I am today. I came from a twice broken home, where my parents divorced when I was 2, and then my Mom divorced my step/adopted Dad when I was 12. I got involved with alcohol and drugs, and other promiscuous behavior soon after. Though I was not raised in a Christian home or go to any kind of church, my childhood from as young as I could remember until I was 12 was pretty normal, and for the most part was a very comfortable lifestyle. We never had a want or a need that was not provided for. We lived in a very nice 4 bedroom home in a new upper-middle class neighborhood, and both of my parents drove new Cadillacs. Unfortunately, when the second divorce took place, my life took a turn for the worse. I began to live a pretty dark life (even to the point of considering suicide at 17), but most people never knew it. I hid it well. I will not take the time here to get into the details. I will save that for my upcoming book. However, I will say that looking back, God has had his hand on my life every step of the way, and today, I am quite thankful for the life experience that I was given…to be continued.
P.S. Molly, I will send you an advance copy when I publish my book.
I have no idea.
Yes Karen. It’s true.
Margie Peicot asks… Are you happy with your life’s direction /choices?
Most of them.
Yes….and I would love to invite all of my friends to join me at my church for an amazing opportunity and to experience me serving them. Click here for my church info.
I have no clue.
Ray Williams asks… Is this a trick question?
Nope. Yep. Maybe.
I chose to only use one question per family for the top 25. I liked your wife’s question better, so I went with hers.
Deborah Padilla asks… What’s your most productive activity?
I would have to say it is working on my computer late at night without any distractions.
Jim Bulluck asks… Are you saved?
Yes. As saved as you can get.
Richard S. Barid asks… What makes you happy?
Too many things to list here. However, one of them is having friends like you Richard!
If you were in the least bit entertained by this “About Me” page, feel free to share it with others! -Steve
